The John Mark Verdier House was built during the last decade of the 18th century as a home for the Revolutionary war hero and businessman that the house is named after. Over the course of their tenure at the home, it was visited by famed Frenchman Marquis de Lafayette. The home stands as a fine example of the Federal style architecture that was popular at the time and contains furnishings and items representative of those found in the homes of wealthy 19th century citizens. The house is located in the historic downtown area of Beaufort, a few blocks south of the University of South Carolina - Beaufort campus and near the waterfront.
